Year 1 Styling project at the London College of Fashion.

My degree at the London College of Fashion not only explores the art of photography but also fashion styling. Term two was spent learning about In house PR’s, networking, sourcing clothes, customisation and key elements of styling on the body. The terms project proved both challenging and rewarding, I had little previous experience of styling so I even surprised myself with how well I took to it. For the project I had to produce a well-documented PDF document exploring the style of a chosen fashion icon. This would then result in five styled outfits for five set scenarios.
The class was advised to choose a fashion icon that represented our own style. You can find my own “style breakdown” here. I initially begun researching the Hollywood classics however I didn’t feel any of them truly represented my own personal style. Audrey wore trousers to often and Marilyn Monroe showed too much skin. It was only by chance that I stumbled upon the French beauty Catherine Deneuve.
Here are the PDF pages for my final piece and I’ve selected a few pages to show up close to give an idea of the look I was going for and what I was researching.
I think what made all the difference regarding this project was simply time management. I felt like I was able to enjoy it thoroughly and take everything I could from it. I began my research the same day I received the brief and carried on adding bits to it right up until the deadline. I usually spend the last two weeks before a deadline high on ProPlus and chained to my desk. Instead during this project I was able to casually stroll through exhibitions, read French fashion books and watch French films, the entire experience felt very stress free and it was so refreshing to take things at my own pace (which tends to be very slow anyway!). Before I knew it I’d written 12,000 words and styled and shot a 5 page editorial, it has to be said I’m quite proud of this body of work.

Using this research I had to come up with four outfits for the following occasions: event, wedding, work and street. I was then allowed to choose my own occasion for the fifth outfit, for which I chose a shopping trip. Here are some of my styling boards –

I’ll post the final shoot along with my grade which I get mid April 🙂

You go to lcf and that's the topic you choose! I know loads of people who go to 'regular' unis and have done better stuff than this. this is so overdone

Jealousy is a terrible thing, and its extremely tragic to see someone so intent on trying to put someone else's achievements down to make them selves feel better. What I do find incredibly amusing is that I have a tracker – and I know exactly who this is, I could always message you via Facebook if you'd prefer? What I find even more funny is despite your dislike for my work you then continued to go on just about every page of my blog for 40 minutes afterwards. Perhaps if you spent more time working on your creative endeavours instead of being bitter about others then maybe you could also achieve something. I also pity you because you clearly show little self confidence or strength; you hide your face behind the anonymous option. Personally I believe that anyone who spends their time trying to put down others via "anon" is actually a very sad, desperate and lonely individual who is crying out to be heard because their own lives are so unfulfilling and they feel insignificant to others. Please, anon get some help soon 🙂 I hope you've enjoyed thoroughly looking at everything on my blog and tragically trying to voice your opinion.

For this only provides me with huge amounts of motivation and amusement, remember anon..

Have a lovely evening anon 🙂

This is really amazing! You've clearly put a lot of effort into this and it definitely shines through!! Not a lot of people have shared their fashion styling/photography projects from LCF so I'm happy to get in inside look ❤

I thought your project was amazing! I loved your theme (but that might be something to do with my obsession with all of the things you looked at haha). But still you'd clearly put effort into it & the whole thing looked lovely. I'm going to LCF in September to study BA Fashion Photography, I hope we get to do similar things to this! Looks like such a fun project 🙂

At least I like it a lot! I think Jenna Fifi has a very good taste on fashion/lifestyle and knows what exactly her style is – appreciate! And this is a styling project about elegance, if you want something imaginative you can always go for Lady Gaga instead. – Vincci from Hong Kong

Thank you so much Vincci 🙂 I'm glad you understand, I like classic, elegant looks, not wild styling. My teachers agreed also and I received a B+ for the project 🙂 So pleased! x
