My Favourite Alternative Christmas Advent Calendars 2016
Opening up door number 1 on an advent calendar is always a joyous moment. It means Christmas is well and truly on it’s way and the glitzy decorations can begin to make an appearance. That little chocolate robin hidden behind a door can make even the chilliest of December mornings something to look forward too. But over the past few years advent calendars have become even more magical, rekindling that charm we all felt as children. Beauty and gift calendars make memorable early presents that can be enjoyed long before the big day, or as a daily treat amongst the manic merriment and endless to-do-lists.
I’ve selected my three favourite calendars for the festive season to count down in style. Take a look and let me know your favourites too.
The Beauty Advent Calendar
ASOS – £50
If you’re looking for a calendar that features both familiar and up and coming names that span right across the beauty industry, then this is the calendar for you. Behind the marble print doors lie everything from lip-gloss to firming facial oil and Burt’s bees to Elemis. The entire contents is worth an impressive £175! When I took a quick peak it was clear that ASOS has got the festive season covered, with products like eye drops for those post party mornings and Cowshed hand cream to battle through the cold.
Compared to other beauty calendars on the market this is incredibly good value for money, bursting with essential products to make you smile each day.
When Drinks by the Dram launched their range of alcohol advent calendars, they were answering the prayers of many. Each magnificent calendar, be it Whisky, Gin or vodka houses 24 beautiful drams of your favourite beverage. I tested out the Ginvent calendar (it’s a tough job) to see whether or not it was a justifiable splurge – and it most definitely is! It contains a range of delicious gins, from familiar favourites to rare gems that are guaranteed to make December merry. Of all the 24 bottles, there was not a single gin that left me unimpressed and I’m looking forward to trying some unique flavours like Smoked & Salted or Strathearn Heather Rose. It’s a great way to test some wonderful Gins in the run up to Christmas, with plenty of time to add a bottle to your Christmas list or order in a few for the party.
They also make excellent stocking or cracker fillers – if you’re generous enough to share. This is by far my favourite calendar of the season and would be an undoubtedly much loved gift. It’s going to be a very good December!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on alternative calendars and which ones are your favourites!

I’m Jenna! A photographer, stylist and recipe developer constantly seeking and sharing life’s little tonics. Here is where I share delicious, sparkly stories from Somerset, with my rescue dogs in tow.
In short, I’m usually behind a lens, eat a lot and often lose 4G.
Jenna Fifi is where you’ll find everything from indulgent recipes and hotel reviews to skincare recommendations and interiors inspiration. Life natters are complimentary. It’s a varied mix of late-20s souvenirs, the best bits of course, all jumbled together and served with a sprinkling of humour and a slice of the bright side.
This space is made to be rummaged through, and I hope you find something that leaves you full with life lustre, rippling ideas and hungry for cake and beyond.
So pull up a chair, pour yourself a drink and don’t forget to say hello! 😊
ᛕeеp ⲟn writing, great job!
